José C. Mercado is a Physician Assistant with Dr. Scott Goldberg and South Florida ENT Associates in Miami, Florida since 2001. After serving in the U.S. Army as a medical specialist and flight medic for eight years, he went on to complete the Physician Assistant Program at Miami-Dade College’s Medical Center (MDC) and earned a Master of Medical Science degree from Nova Southeastern University (NSU). In addition to his training in family medicine, he completed an internship in Adult ENT/Head & Neck Surgery at the Veterans Affair’s Medical Center in Miami, as well as a Preceptorship in Pediatric ENT at Miami Children’s Hospital. Currently, he serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor and Clinical Preceptor in Miami-Dade College’s Physician Assistant Program, and at Barry University School of Graduate Medical Sciences, Physician Assistant Program. He is a guest Lecturer at Nova Southeastern University’s Physician Assistant Program. He is a Fellow of the Society of Physician Assistants in Otorhinolaryngology / Head & Neck Surgery and serves as their Webmaster, Scholarship Chairperson and President-Elect. He is on the Speaker’s Panel for Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceuticals and Alcon Laboratories. His special interests include sleep medicine and physician assistant education. His hobbies include competitive saber fencing and traveling.
